A memorial service for Douglas Dean Young, 73, of Wallingford, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford with Pastor John Wolf officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery. Doug died Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, at the Fonda Care Center in Fonda, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8 at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.
Douglas Dean Young, the son of Dale and Dolores (Olson) Young was born on December 13, 1949 in Estherville, Iowa.
Doug graduated from Lincoln Central High School in 1968 before attending Waldorf, SDSU, and Iowa State for Architectural Engineering.
He married Pat Dreyer on July 1, 1973. The couple made their home in Wallingford where they farmed and raised livestock.
Doug enjoyed farming, golf, the Iowa Hawkeyes, ISU vs. anyone but Iowa, NASCAR and Jeff Gordon, slow break basketball and softball. His grandkids held a special place in his heart.
Doug was a member of Wallingford Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Glenn (Deloris) Young and Katherine (Neal) Anderson; grandchildren, Ashley, Allison, Kaleb, Erin and Ryan; as well as his brother David (Peggy) Young and brother-in-law, Al Tromblay.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Dolores (Olson) Young, granddaughter, Rachel, sisters, Diane Tromblay and Debra Young.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
