Gregory Alan Nath was born to Larry Alan Nath and Gloria Jane (Eide) Nath on January 9, 1969, in Estherville, IA. He grew up on the family farm near Estherville and graduated from Lincoln Central High School in Gruver, Iowa, with the class of 1987. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA, in 1991. Following college, Greg worked at the Estherville Daily News as a staff writer and later became the sports editor.

On May 27, 2000, Greg married Amy Clarke at Estherville Lutheran Church, Estherville, Iowa. They had three children: Isabella, Desmond, and Briella. They raised their family in Perry and Greg worked for the Perry Chief. He also coached soccer and football at Perry High School, as well as soccer at Dallas Center-Grimes High School. He later became the Parks and Rec Director at the McCreary Recreation Center in Perry.

Greg adored his children and family. He was a dedicated sports fan, spent many hours coaching young and high school athletes, and covering sports as a journalist. Greg supported the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a free spirit always up for adventure, whether running marathons, enjoying water activities on the lake, playing cards, taking trips to the Boundary Waters, vacationing on the beach or in the mountains, or reading a good book.
