Funeral services for Clarence J. Bierstedt, 88, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Lynn Dreyer officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville, with military rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 Estherville. Clarence, passed away June 13, 2024, at Park View Rehab Center in Sac City, IA. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Clarence Junior Bierstedt was born February 10, 1936, to Clarence and Clara (Kressin) Bierstedt in Whittemore, IA. He had an older sister, Phyllis, his twin sister, Clara (who passed away when they were 7) and one younger brother Larry.

Clarence graduated from Fenton High School in 1955, where he participated in sports and played tuba in the band. He also played tuba outside of school in a German Band made up of only four members. After high school, Clarence was in the Army from 1958-1960. He was stationed in Germany as a MP and drove a General around. He later attended ILCC for two years, and Mankato State for one and a half years.

On November 12, 1961, Clarence was united in marriage to June Johnson. They made their home in Estherville, IA until 2019 when they moved to Sac City.

After the Army, Clarence began working as a typewriter repair man for Typewriter Exchange in Estherville. He also began working for John Morrell Packing Plant and did so for 30 years. After retiring, he worked for Emmet County Conservation for 10 years.

Clarence was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville and a life-time member of the Estherville VFW Post 3388.

Clarence enjoyed camping, fishing, snowmobiling, and fixing typewriters and cuckoo clocks. He also enjoyed attending his grandsons’ sports and music events.

Clarence is survived by daughter, Lori (Kevin Higgins) Mooney of Sac City, IA; daughter-in-law, Teri Bierstedt of Brookings, SD; grandsons, Jason (Laura) Mooney of Bondurant, IA and Anthony Bierstedt of St. Paul, MN; great-grandchildren, Henry and Evelyn Mooney; sisters-in-law, Janean Bierstedt of Fenton, IA, Shirley Johnson of Fairmont, MN, and Lorae Johnson of Spirit Lake, IA.

He is preceded in death by his wife June, son Roger Bierstedt, grandson Tanner Bierstedt, sister Phyllis (Bierstedt) Dreyer, twin sister, Clara Bierstedt, brother Larry Bierstedt, brothers-in-law, Darrel Dreyer, Kenny Johnson, and Allan “Spike” Johnson, and nephew Kim Dreyer.
