Funeral services for Vivian L. Montgomery, 100, of Estherville, were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026 at Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Palestine Lutheran Cemetery, Dolliver. Vivian passed away on Sunday, August. 30, 2026, in Estherville.
Vivian L. Montgomery, the daughter of Percy and Leona (Iverson) Herum, was born on April 11, 1926, near Dolliver, Iowa.
She received all her education in Dolliver, before attending Mankato Business College.
Vivian worked for the hatchery in Swea City, Iowa, where she met her husband, Ed Montgomery.
She also worked as a secretary for Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City and Farm Service in Gruver.
Vivian was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church, where she was very active in the ladies’ aid and a past president, until it closed. She was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
In her free time, Vivian enjoyed reading and crocheting, especially kitchen towels.
Vivian is survived by her children, Dennis (Janet) Montgomery of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Joann (Mike) Eide of Severn, Maryland, Jane Montgomery of Harmony, Minnesota, Julie Montgomery of Cresco, Iowa, and Pat (Tim) Swalve of Estherville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Annette Wenzel of Ceylon, Minnesota, Wilma Herrick of Grand Junction, Iowa, Lois Swanson of Fairmont, Minnesota, and Kenneth (Coleen) Herum of Dolliver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Edward Montgomery; sisters, Carol (Arnold) Saha, Norma (Harley) Rosburg, and Lila (Roy) Rush; brother, Floyd (Melba) Herum; brothers-in-law, Mike Swanson, Ellis Herrick, and Bill Wenzel.
