Verlin “Pete” Heinrichs the son of Aloysious and Clara (Bernholtz) Heinrichs was born May 19, 1938, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He died on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at his home in Graettinger, Iowa at the age of 85.
Funeral mass was held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. Burial with military honors were held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Estherville. Visitation was Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville.
Pete received his education and graduated from Estherville High School. Pete served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1963, On Nov. 18, 1967, he was united in marriage to Diane Felkey at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. Pete worked for John Morrell and Co. for 13 years and also operated a gas station for 5 years. The past 30 plus years, he was owner/operator at Warren Transport and retired in 2006. Pete enjoyed tinkering in his shop and attending his grandchildren’s events. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville.
Left to cherish Pete’s memory are his wife, Diane of Graettinger; sons, Peter (Jill) Heinrichs of Graettinger; Paul (Jennifer) Heinrichs of Fort Mohave, Arizona; Patrick Heinrichs of Carpintaria, California; grandchildren, Dustin, Travis, Emma, and Eric; great grandchildren, Claire and Caleb and his sister-in-law, Arlis Heinrichs of Estherville.
He has been preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ronald and infant Duane; sisters, Cleora (Merrill) Hanson, Lujean (Ray) Fiedler and Shirley (Don) Ott.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to Avera Home Hospice.
