Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Lown, 101, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Paul Kelly and Deacon John Rudd, celebrants. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Estherville. Mary died on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at Valley View Care Center in Armstrong

Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m., Sunday at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with rosary at 2 p.m. and vigil at 2:30 p.m.

Mary Lown the daughter of Frank and Rose (Zeiman) Rauterkus was born September 26, 1922, in Mapleton, Iowa.

She received her education and graduated from Mapleton High School. She then attended the Midwest College of Commerce in Sioux City, Iowa.

On August 28, 1944, she was united in marriage to Frank Lown at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton. The couple made their home in Estherville where Mary raised eight children and then worked as Administrative Assistant at Avera Holy Family Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1988. Frank passed away in 1993.

Mary was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she served as Parish Director for over 20 years. She also belonged to the Catholic Daughters, and the Altar and Rosary Society. Further, she was member of the Rosewood and Hospital Auxiliary, and helped organize meals on wheels.

Mary is survived by her children, Jim (Jan) Lown, Don (Janet) Lown, Janet (Dan) Buda, Jean Lown, Marybeth (Mark) Fitzgerald, and John (Sandy) Lown; daughters-in-law, Karen Lown and Carol Lown; 17 grandchildren, Jay Lown, Mitch Lown, Emily Earl, Alison Lown, Ryan Lown, Matt Buda, Tim Buda, Joe Buda, Andy Lown, Kari Lown, Greg Penaluna, Kelli Heikkila, Megan Corcoran, Ann Basham, Dan Lown, Josh Lown, and Abby Lown; 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She has been preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, sons, Bob and Mike; daughter-in-law, Pam Lown; and brothers, Gilbert, Silven, Alfonse, and Lavern.
