Kick Cancer to the Curb came with extra kick

Saturday’s American Cancer Society Event began with over a dozen cyclists braving the heat for Bike for a Cure from Thoreson Park to the Nature Center (and back, for longer riders) and moved to Library Square for inspiration, entertainment and food.

Dancetastic dancers performed for an hour with a variety of performances and dancers of all ages showing their talent.

Brett Fuelberth was emcee of the entertainment portion, which featured Robin Enerson sharing her cancer experience, and Maggie Jackson singing.

Organizer Nancy Hanby said, “Considering how hot it was, and that it wasn’t an actual Relay for Life, we did well crowd wise.”

Luminaria were set up around the sidewalks, but given the wind and the time of day, they were not lit. A meal and auction also highlighted the day.

The event was shared with VFW Post 3388 in Estherville, in celebration of Iowa VFW’s 100th Anniversary this week.
