Christopher Dale Hoyer, son of Dennis and Faith (Walrod) Hoyer was born on January 12, 1974, at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Surrounded by his family and friends, he passed away peacefully at his home in Estherville, Iowa on Nov. 2, 2022.
Chris graduated from Armstrong-Ringsted High School in 1992. He then attended Waldorf College and graduated with an AA degree in business. From there, he attended The University of South Dakota earning a bachelor’s degree in business. Chris was an outstanding pitcher and played baseball at both Waldorf and The University of South Dakota. Following college, he moved to Sioux Falls and was a mortgage broker with Wells Fargo. On September 25, 2004, he was united in marriage to Amy Sabin. This marriage produced a daughter Madison. The marriage was later dissolved. Chris was transferred to Des Moines with Wells Fargo and later relocated back to northwest Iowa to be closer to his daughter.
Chris had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed taking walks, especially in Fort Defiance and on the banks of the Mississippi River, where he often visited his mom and dad. Chris had many groups of friends. He enjoyed traveling to Sioux Falls, Des Moines, or over to Armstrong to spend weekends with friends. It is no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers were his favorite football team. From time to time Chris would travel to Pittsburgh to watch them play. While there, he would befriend someone off the street and treat them to dinner and drinks. Peaceful, patient, and low-key are just a few words that describe his character. He also enjoyed a round of golf from time to time, spending time with Madison and his family, and showing off his karaoke skills.
