Southeastern nips Iowa Lakes in OT

Holding a three-point lead entering the fourth quarter, the Iowa Lakes women couldn’t hold back Southeastern last Saturday. The two teams were tied at 64-64 at the end of the regulation, but the Blackhawks won the overtime period 14-9 to leave Estherville with a 78-73 victory.

Iowa Lakes trailed 18-14 after one quarter and Southeastern maintained its four-point lead, 35-31, at halftime. The Lakers outscored the visitors 22-15 in the third quarter.

Southeastern had an advantage at the free throw line, where they made 21-of-29 free throws while the Lakers were 8-of-18.

Rachel Puok led Iowa Lakes with 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jaeda Whitner had 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Brielle Bartelt had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Ihari Oromo had 10 points and Rachel Breck had nine points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.

Iowa Lakes (12-6 overall, 6-2 in conference play) was at Northeast Community College on Tuesday. The Lakers are on the road against Iowa Western today before hosting Iowa Western on Monday.
