Shane Robert von Holdt passed away suddenly in Sac City, IA at the age of 61 on Jan. 1, 2022. He was born on March 2, 1960, in Spirit Lake to Robert and Karen von Holdt. Shane was a free spirit. To him, no one was a stranger. An avid motorcyclist, he loved his cross-country bike trips with friends. He also loved music, his grandkids and his cats.
Shane was privileged to be able to play with many talented musicians. In 2012, he was inducted into the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association Hall of Fame. Earlier that year, he was inducted into the Mid-America Music Hall of Fame (Minnesota), as a member of the Joe Schultz Band.
Shane is survived by daughters Melissa von Holdt, Danielle Rash (Bob), Charlotte Taylor; sons Jake von Holdt, Shane Jr. von Holdt (Christie), Zachary von Holdt and Sam von Holdt; sisters Teresa von Holdt and Jody Milligan (Steve); grandchildren Xander von Holdt, Sebastian von Holdt, Alexis Kinsman, Blake Kinsman, Jack Kinsman, Tyler von Holdt, Jeremy von Holdt, William Newhouse and Andy Newhouse. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Calvin Mitchell.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Iowa Rock N Roll Music Association.
