Funeral service for Ronald R. Fay, 75, of Wallingford, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Father Merlin Schrad officiating. Interment will be at High Lake-Jack Creek Cemetery, Wallingford. Ron passed away on June 16, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.
Ronald Robert Fay, son of Robert and Lorraine (Kunert) Fay, was born on July 21, 1945, in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
Ron graduated from Lincoln Central High School in 1964. Following high school, he worked at VC Chemical and the Wallingford Cooperative Elevator. In 1966, Ron joined his father in farming and his brother Jerry later joined them, to create a multi-generational farming operation. On November 16, 1968, Ron was united in marriage to Mary Rolfson at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. Besides crop farming, Ron also raised feeder pigs. After living on the farm in rural Graettinger for 47 years, Ron and Mary moved into his family home in Wallingford in 2015. Following the death of his brother and farming partner, Jerry, Ron retired from the farming business in 2016.
Ron was a member of many organizations including the Emmet County Pork Producers, Emmet County Soybean Association, and the ELKS. He was a past board member of River Valley Telecommunications Coop. Ron enjoyed doing woodwork projects when not farming. He was always up for a repair job or bringing to life a project that his family brought to him. His favorite and greatest pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his drives with Kieran and when Mya would be his nurse during his recovery periods. Going on fishing trips to Canada brought Ron great joy and relaxation. Ron was very community orientated, always willing to help his friends and neighbors in their time of need. He had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his many friends.
Ron is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary of Wallingford, his daughters, Erica (Bryan) Skarphol of Johnston, IA and Alison (Lane) McClintic of Estherville, IA, and his grandchildren Kieran and Mya McClintic. He is also survived by his sisters, Judy (Larry) Kramer of Clear Lake, IA; Theresa (Robert) Linn of Sioux City, IA; Sherry Salzman of Jackson, MN; Denise (Pablo) Leal of Estherville, IA; and sister-in-law Kris Fay of Wallingford, IA.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry Fay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Wallingford EMS or Wallingford Community Center.
