Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, at Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville. Burial with military honors will follow at East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville. Friends may call on Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville.
Raymond LeRoy Dahna, the son of LeRoy and Virginia (Hansen) Dahna, was born on Sept. 26, 1940, in Estherville, Iowa. He died on Jan. 8, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville at the age of 83 years.
Ray graduated from Estherville High School. He enlisted in the United States Army where he was honorably discharged in 1964. He later joined the Air National Guard where he served for 9 more years. With the GI bill, he also attended Iowa Lakes Community College.
Ray married Kathy Rolfson on Oct. 11, 1964, at the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. To this union, two sons were born, Jeff and Jason.
He was employed by John Morrell for 25 years. He also drove bus and worked in road construction.
Ray was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church, the AM Vets, and was a founding member of the Black Knights Car Club. He enjoyed tinkering, welding and metal fabrication, spending time with his family, woodworking, home remodeling, and photography.
Ray is survived by his wife, Kathy Dahna, of Estherville; sons, Jeff (Ali) Dahna of Windom, MN and Jason (Mischelle) Dahna of Wallingford, IA; grandchildren, Owen, Adam, Meaghan, Scott, and Samantha; and his sister, Donna (Dale) Port, of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Virginia (Hansen) Dahna, three sisters, Betty Loewenberg, Darlene Olson, and Lorraine Thornburg, a half-brother, Ronald Hansen and a granddaughter, Sarah Ann Marie Dahna.
In lieu flowers, memorials may be given to Estherville Lutheran Church.
