Patricia Ann (Smith) Carr, the daughter of Roy and Alma (Hansen) Smith was born on September 20, 1934, in Yankton, South Dakota. She passed away on February 10, 2022, in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 87. Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at Henry-Olson Funeral Home in Estherville. Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.
Patricia attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Mount Marty High School in Yankton. After graduation from high school, she followed her parents to Estherville, Iowa. She attended Estherville Junior College for one year and later the Cedar Falls Teacher’s College. Eventually, she received her four year degree, again back at Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota. She taught school for 10 years, before meeting Harold Carr.
Patricia was united in marriage to Harold on July 3, 1965, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville, Iowa. Her teaching continued through church activities, elementary religion classes, Bible Study, adult religion classes, RCIA and as a 4-H leader. She was active in the Superior Farm Women’s Club. Later in life, Patricia became active in making quilts for the needy with a group of ladies from St. Patrick’s. She also enjoyed working in her yard and loved her flowers
Patricia is survived by her children Patrick (special friend Sheryl Tewes) Carr, farmer of Estherville, Michael (Lynn) Carr, P.E. of Rock Rapids, Joseph (Shannon) Carr, D.V.M. of Jackson, Minnesota, Thomas (Deb) Carr, D.V.M. of rural Estherville, and Mary (David) Carr Peterson PA-C of Ankeny; 13 grandchildren: Melissa, Matthew, Andrew, Noah, Ethan, Jonah, Jakob, Joshua, Aaron, John, Elizabeth, William, and Daniel; a great-grandson Liam. She is also survived by her siblings Colleen (Bill) Mahoney, Mike Smith, and Sharon (Merle) Patterson.
She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents, infant brother Patrick, sister Jean Kincaid, brother-in-law Bill Kincaid, brother Jim Smith, and sister-in-law JoEllyn Smith.
