Funeral services for Dorothy Weir, 84, of Estherville, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with Pastor Kevin Moore officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. Dorothy passed away on Jan. 22, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.
Dorothy M. Weir, the daughter of William and Leona (Helmich) Carrison was born April 13, 1938, in Estherville, Iowa.
Dorothy received her education in the Estherville schools, graduating in May of 1955.
On June 18, 1955, was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert F. Weir. To this union, six children were born. Dorothy was employed at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, retiring in 1996. Dorothy enjoyed wintering in Texas, square dancing, country music, camping, bingo, and spending time with the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and more recently a great-great-granddaughter. She was a past member of the Estherville Bustle Rustler Square Dance club and an avid Vikings Fan.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Estherville.
Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her children, Doug (Penny) Weir of Estherville; Sheryl (Ken) Chonko of Jackson, Minnesota; Robert Weir, Jr. (Kris) Weir of Nora Springs, Iowa Susan (Keith) Kuchenbecker of Dunnell, Minnesota; David (Amy) Weir of Algona, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; siblings, Dennis Carrison of Nebraska, Shirley Linn of Estherville, and Bill Carrison, Jr of Overland Park, Kansas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Weir, parents, William and Leona (Helmich) Carrison, son, Raymond Weir, grandson, Brent Weir, infant siblings Darlene and Richard Carrison, sisters Marlene Dunford Van Bibber, Lavonne Killmer and brother Harold Carrison.
