Jeremy Breiner

A celebration of life for Jeremy will be held at the VFW Hall in Estherville on Thursday, June 10, 2021, from 6-9 p.m.

Jeremy Joseph Breiner, the son of Doreen (Zitterich) Shryock and Greg Breiner, was born on January 16, 1978, in Estherville, Iowa. Jeremy passed June 1, 2021, at his home.

Jeremy grew up in Estherville before he left to join the Army National Guard. He attended both Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, IA, and the University of Nebraska Omaha. Jeremy decided to follow the family tradition set by his grandfather and his uncle to work for the railroad. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for 16 years.

Jeremy loved making people laugh. He was always ready to provide clever color commentary or a quick sarcastic reply to any situation. Conversations between him and his lifelong friend and co-conspirator, Mitch Krumwiede, were fast, furious and hard to follow for anyone listening other than themselves. Some of his favorite things were motorcycles, vintage vehicles, and discussing historical events especially WWII and the planes flown in that era. If his nose wasn’t in a book, he could be found listening to vinyl or restoring old stereo equipment. Jeremy loved spending time with his son, Riley Breiner, and Mitch, riding motorcycles throughout Iowa, South Dakota, and the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. Jeremy also loved the outdoors. His longtime life partner, Lauri Lumm, introduced Jeremy to riding bicycles, and they enjoyed riding RAGBRAI together. On a beautiful summer day, you could find Jeremy and Lauri on their bikes, or in kayaks, or hiking. The two loved to travel and went on many adventures together, Hawaii being Jeremy’s favorite. Jeremy was a unique and beautiful soul who was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish Jeremy’s memory are his life partner, Lauri Lumm; his son, Riley Breiner; his mother, Doreen Shryock; his father, Greg Breiner; his brother, Greg Breiner; his grandfather, Eldin Zitterich; his uncle Dave Zitterich; and many cousins and close friends.

Jeremy was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lois Zitterich.
