Lawrence James Jones, lovingly known as “Jim”, was born on September 3, 1934 in Estherville, Iowa to Lawrence L. and Beatrice R (French) Jones. He passed away on December 26, 2021 at Good Samaritan Nursing Society in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 87. Services will be held at a later date for Jim.
He graduated from Estherville High School. He entered the United States Navy in 1953, where he was deployed and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on April 16, 1957. When he returned home, he attended Estherville Junior College, and transferred to Wayne State, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree and his Master’s Degree. He taught industrial arts for 28 years, teaching at Ringsted, Webb, Edgerton, and retiring from Mora, Minnesota. He also taught at St. Cloud State College. He retired to fish and enjoy time with his family.
Jim was a member of the Methodist Church in Dolliver for many years. He enjoyed volunteering for the Boy Scouts for over 22 years. He was also a member of the American Legion. Jim enjoyed woodcarving and doing word search puzzles. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching western shows and reading Louis L’Amour books.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years Marjorie of Dolliver, his children Rebecca (Keith) Jones of Lakefield, MN and James (Sue) Jones of Big Lake, MN; four grandchildren Nathan, Jamie (Chris), Stefan, and Sophie. He is also survived by his brother Ben (Jane) Jones.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Charles Jones and Kenneth (Dorothy) Jones.
