A memorial service for Janice A. Swartz, 75, of Armstrong, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Estherville with Pastor Kevin Moore officiating. Interment will be at Armstrong Grove Cemetery, Armstrong. Janice passed away on December 20, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022, at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Armstrong.
Janice was born on February 27, 1946, to Joseph August and Alice (Riggs) Haisman in Emmet County, Iowa.
Janice graduated from Armstrong High School, Estherville Junior College, and Mankato State University. She was a medical technologist for many years at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato. She spent 13 years as a housing manager for Country Neighbors Home, an assisted living home in Mapleton, Minnesota. On September 13, 1969, she was united in marriage to Richard Swartz at the Armstrong Presbyterian Church.
Janice was a member of the Estherville United Methodist Church. She was a 58-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past matron. She was a life member of the Girl Scouts of the USA. She served for many years as a Board Director in several positions on her council.
Janice enjoyed volunteer work tutoring at Mapleton High School. She spent many summers lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons at the Armstrong Pool and served as Pool Manager. While in college, Janice swam on the Dolphin synchronized swim team. She enjoyed camping and spent many summers at Camp Foster on the Okobojis.
Janice treasured time spent with family and friends, especially her grandson, Ethan.
Janice is survived by her husband of 52 years Richard Swartz of Armstrong, her daughter Sarah (Erik) Olsen of Mankato, Minnesota, and her grandson Ethan Olsen.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Joseph Haisman.
