Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. Evelyn passed away on March 21, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.

Evelyn D. Hennick, daughter of Otto and Anna (Kelting) Peton, was born on May 16, 1932, on the family farm in rural Graettinger, Iowa.

Evelyn graduated from Graettinger High School. Following high school she was employed at NW Bell, before meeting and later marrying Virgil Hennick on June 9, 1957. To this union two children were born, Danny and Pammy. This marriage was later dissolved. Evelyn worked many jobs throughout her life, including as a 911 switchboard operator in their home, a matron at the Estherville jail, cook at the Villager, for Lakes Vending and UniVac, and had a private home cleaning business. She enjoyed working many of these jobs with her twin sister Edith.

Evelyn was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville. Although she was busy working and raising her children, she always found time to volunteer in the community. She enjoyed helping in the kitchens at church and the VFW, being a part of the VFW Auxiliary, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Evelyn liked to be outdoors: bird watching, feeding the squirrels, and going for walks that included her grandchildren.  They especially enjoyed walks through Fort Defiance and to McDonald’s. She and her family made yearly trips to the Clay County Fair.

Evelyn is survived by her children Dan Hennick of Estherville and Pam Nissen of Spencer; grandchildren Ashley (Jon) Hockett and Landon (Kalei) Joynt; great-grandchildren Clara Hockett, Parker Hockett, Canton Joynt, and baby girl Joynt on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister Edith (Gary) Rouse, brother Arnold (Ingrid) Peton, and son-in-law Tom Joynt.
