Funeral services for Doris Frick, 99, of Estherville, were held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2023 at First Christian Church in Estherville with Pastor Doug Burton officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. Doris departed this life on Friday, March 24, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville.
Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Doris Frick, the daughter of Tom and Maud (Pierce) Brown was born October 10, 1923, in Estherville.
She received her education and graduated from Estherville High School.
On March 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Walter Frick in Fairmont, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple farmed and lived in the Estherville area. Doris was the evening chief officer at the Telephone Office during World War II. They would put a black oil cloth over the windows because they didn’t want anyone to know where communications were. Doris enjoyed listening to KILR radio (especially ELC Midgets and Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball games), reading the newspaper, and spending time with family and friends. Walter died in 2007.
She was a life long member of the First Christian Church in Estherville, where she enjoyed leading her church circle group, working on the funeral committee, delivering meals on wheels, tying quilts with other church ladies, and helping with coffee fellowship after church.
Left to cherish Doris’ memory are her three daughters, Susan Schock and her husband, Bill; Diane Swalve and her husband, Lowell, all of Estherville; Cindy Frick and spouse, Cathy Nowak of Union, Oregon; eight grandchildren, Greg Schock and his wife, Suzy; Pam Tromblay and her husband, Darren; Nikki Varcoe and her husband, Brian; Coleen McDowell and her husband, Scott; Kevin Schock and his wife, Sarah; Sara Frame and her husband, Jason; Marcy Sander and her husband, Kevin; and Ryan Swalve and his wife, Kristin; 20 great grandchildren; Dustin, Elise, Dakota and Myles Tromblay, Ashley and Logan Varcoe, Morgan, Colton and Maddy McDowell, Molly, Shiloh, Harper and Carlie Schock, Aly, Keegan and Hope Frame, Izaak and Abby Sander, Nick and Anna Swalve.
She has been preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; siblings Ora Brown, Vivian Bretzman, Ruth Rogers, Joyce Nelson, and infant sister May Brown.
