Amy Joy Westphal, 49, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Ava’s House.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, May 19 at Miller Funeral Home-Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD. Interment will be at Welcome City Cemetery, Welcome, MN. Amy was born on July 21, 1971 in Des Moines, IA, and became a member of the Westphal family. She grew up in Estherville, IA where she attended school and graduated from Estherville High School in 1990 and Iowa Lakes Community College in 1993.
After attending the University of Northern Iowa for two years, Amy packed up and moved to Sioux Falls where she worked as a preschool teacher and at Apple Tree Children Centers. She was employed there for 26 years.
Amy was a big fan of country music. In 2013, her biggest dream came true when she met her favorite band Rascal Flatts. Another highlight in Amy’s life was attending a Vikings game at US Bank Stadium in 2018. Amy faced a lot of battles in her life especially with her health, but her faith gave her a lot of the strength she needed.
Grateful for having shared her life are her parents, Bill & Bonnie Ambrose, Logan, IA (and the late Jerry Westphal); siblings, Deb Pieper (husband Scot) of Brandon, SD, Ryan Westphal (wife Ann) of Greensburg, IN, Bryan Ambrose of Belleview, NE, Paul Ambrose (wife Jennifer), of Anchorage, AK; several nieces and nephews, Shawna & Ryan Malsom, Aberdeen, SD, Kyle & Michael Irwin, Hendersonville, TN, Hailey Pieper, Liam, Ariana, Lennon Ambrose, Edward Ambrose, Anna; and great nieces, Lindon and Judah Irwin; three uncles, Don McIntire, St. Paul, MN, Chuck (Linda) Westphal, Dubuque, IA, Dale Westphal, Fairmont, MN; and a host of relatives and friends.
Amy is preceded in death by her father, Jerry Westphal; a nephew, Alex Westphal; her maternal and paternal grandparents, Earl and Betty McIntire, and Henry and Eileen Westphal.
