Warriors still looking for second win

BANCROFT - The North Union Baseball Team ended its week with a pair of losses.

On Friday, the Warriors fell 8-3 to Bishop Garrigan.

The Warriors led 2-1 when Garrigan erupted for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then scored four insurance runs in the sixth. North Union managed just one more run in the top of the sixth inning.

Noah Morphew took the loss. In five innings, he struck out five batters and walked four while giving up 10 hits. Trevor Olson pitched an inning, striking out two batters and giving up one hit. The Warriors had six hits with Carter Morphew going 2-3 while Noah Morphew, Jay heinen, Braden Pierce, and Kegan Boland each had a hit.

North Union (1-5 overall) hosts Lake Mills in Bancroft today.

After falling behind 5-1 in the first inning, North Union tried to play catch-up to Central Springs all night on Thursday. The Warriors got within a run by the bottom of the fourth inning, 6-5, but the Panthers put up four runs in the top of the fifth and held on for a 12-8 victory.

Carter Morphew started on the mound and gave up 10 runs (seven earned) on eight hits with one strikeout and two walks. Kegan Boland pitched three innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

North Union pounded out four hits led by Noah Morphew, who went 4-4 with a triple, a double, and four RBIs. Carter Morphew was 2-3 while Jay Heinen, Avery Krantz, and Luke Schmidt each had one hit. Heinen had two RBIs.
