Estherville firefighters assist at Superior house fire

June 29, 2020
Estherville News

Thursday morning, the Superior Fire Department was called to 103 Seventh Street in Superior around 7:30. Dispatchers reported the home was fully engulfed. After the Spirit Lake Fire Department showed up to provide water and manpower, Superior Fire Chief Kevin Swalve noted live power on the ground near the main engulfment of the fire. This prevented firefighters from acting on the fire from the east side of the building right away. After Alliant Energy arrived to shut off the power, Superior and Spirit Lake firefighters continued fighting the fire on the east side. At around 8:45 a.m., Estherville Fire Department was dispatched to the fire, and three EFD vehicles rushed out of town to provide manpower and aerial assistance from its ladder truck. Chief Swalve reported Estherville’s equipment was needed to make entry on the top floor because the fire load was high on the upstairs and firefighters were unsure if it was safe to go in.
No injuries were reported, and no cause had been determined.
Highway 9 through Superior was closed for several hours due to the fire.
