Larry Lee Thompson

Larry Lee Thompson, son of Kenneth and Lillian (Boecker) Thompson, was born on November 12, 1943, in Palo Alto county and passed away on May 6, 2020, at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis.

Larry received his education in the Estherville Schools graduating in 1961. He attended Estherville Junior College for one year and Iowa State University for one year. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. After basic training he was sent to Yale University to learn to interpret Chinese and then spent the rest of his tour in Taipei, Taiwan.

He married Joyce Hyatt of Graettinger in 1965 and they had one daughter.

Larry obtained his nursing degree at ILCC and was a psychiatric nurse at the state hospital in Independence and then at the Veteran's Hospital in Iowa City. After retirement he moved to Minneapolis. He was an avid sports fan and loved baseball, football, and basketball - he was a true Twins, Vikings and Hawkeye fan.

Larry is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Marc) Jackson and their son Beckett of Burbank, CA and sisters Marlys Unrau, Spencer and Sandra Thompson, Estherville, nieces Theresa Thompson and Cheri Daws and nephews Dan Schlarbaum, Joe Schlarbaum and stepnephew Andy Unrau, 5 greatnieces and 4 great nephews and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Lillian, grandparents Lars and Emma Thompson and William and Theresa Boecker and brother-in-law John Unrau, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
