Upper Des Moines Opportunity's Emmet County Outreach Center and food pantry will be on the move later this month.

Currently located at 508 S. First St., the offices will move to the former Dollar General building at 1527 Central Ave.

UDMO will rent most of the southern half of the building from the owner, Carz Central.

Deb Weir, UDMO Emmet County Outreach Specialist, said they will close up the current office at noon, Jan. 23.

"If people need something before that, they can stop in," Weir said.

The UDMO office will re-open in its new location on Monday, Jan. 27.

Weir said they'd welcome help in making the move and can contact the office at 712-362-2391.

"We get possession on the 13th and we're looking forward to having more space in a better location," said Weir.

Weir said many clients don't have access to vehicles and will walk along the street on South First Street-some come from the railroad underpass and walk the entire stretch of First Avenue South to the current location.

"We have many clients that live in the trailer park," said Weir.

The new location will be more convenient and safer for all clients to reach.

Jessica Gosch, also a UDMO Outreach Specialist, said the office will also be more visible at the Central Avenue location.

"More people will see us and more can utilize our services," Gosch said.

Weir said the new location will also have more room to store more food in the food panty.

"It's been my goal that we can hand out food weekly instead of every other week for those in need," she said.

That will still depend on the supplies received by the pantry.
