A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Dale Johanson, 93, of Ringsted, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at United Lutheran Church in Ringsted with Pastor Lauri Boysen officiating. Military rites will be by Bonnicksen American Legion Post #382 of Ringsted and Weiby-Johnson VFW Post #5232 of Armstrong. Interment will be at a later date at Poland Township Cemetery, Marathon. Dale passed away surrounded by family at Valley View Care Center under hospice care in Armstrong, Iowa on November 12, 2019

Visitation will be from 12:30-2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at United Lutheran Church in Ringsted.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be to the American Cancer Society, Hospice, or Ringsted United Lutheran Church.

Dale Johanson

Dale J. Johanson was born on Sept. 24, 1926, in Marathon, Iowa to Martin and Minnie (Carlson) Johanson.

Dale graduated from Marathon High School and then Denver University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Dale joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1948. Upon his return to the states he worked for Farm Bureau for a few years. Dale was united in marriage to Ann Maiden on Jan. 5, 1952. The couple made their home in Ringsted. He worked for 30 years with the Emmet County State Bank in Ringsted.

Dale was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Ringsted, where he was very active, singing in the church choir and teaching Sunday school for many years. They joined United Lutheran Church when the churches combined. He was a past member of the Kiwanis, Legion, and many civic clubs. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending time with his wife and family. Dale was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Iowa State Cyclones fan. Dale was very proud of his yard and cars and took excellent care of them.

Dale is survived by his wife, Ann of 67 years of Ringsted; their children, Kathy Buse of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Steve (Linda) Johanson of Apollo Beach, Florida, Terri Johanson of Ames, Iowa, Marty Johanson of Hood River, Oregon, and Krysti (Trevor) Christensen of Sheldahl, Iowa. He is also survived by seven granddaughters, several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Dale is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Erena "Tootie" Maiden and Jerry Lou Maiden.

Dale is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Harry (Marge) Johanson, sister, Irma (Donald) Ritchie, mother-in-law, Eva Maiden, brothers-in-law, Vaun (LaVonne) Maiden, Vern Maiden, Calvin Maiden, and Dean Maiden, and sister-in-law, Bonnie (Robert) Storck.
