Lula J. Grandstaff Eaton

RUTHVEN?- Funeral services for Lula J. Grandstaff Eaton, 88, of Ruthven, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at United Methodist Church in Ruthven with the Rev. Kris Hackbart officiating. Inurnment will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2019, at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven.

Lula J. Grandstaff Eaton, daughter of Wesley and Prudence (Lloyd) Wunn, was born October 16, 1930 near Milford, Iowa, in Dickinson County. She began her education in a one-room school, Westport #6 near Milford until eighth grade. Then Lu attended Okoboji Consolidated Township School, west of Milford where she graduated. Following high school Lu continued her education at Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, Minnesota.

Lu worked in Minnesota, Washington D.C. and Illinois before returning to Iowa, making her home in Ruthven. She was employed at B&M Produce and then Ruthven Consolidated School where she was the secretary for the principal for 17 years.

Lu was united in marriage to Kenneth K. Grandstaff. They were blessed with three children, Sharon, Kenneth W. and Ray. In 1979, Lu was married to Virgil Eaton. They shared 19 wonderful years together.

Lu was a member of the United Methodist Church and circle. As a child, Lu was active in 4-H. She was a member of the Jazzy Jewel Red Hat group, R.S.V.P., Palo Alto County Hospital Auxiliary and the Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary.

Lu passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Kenneth and Virgil; brother, Donald Wunn; and sisters, Lois Boers, Audrey Roberts and Phyllis Rochler.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Grandstaff Dischinger of Livonia, Michigan, Kenneth W. Grandstaff of Gillett Grove, Iowa and Ray (Barb) Grandstaff of Ruthven, Iowa; step children, Rodney Eaton of Ruthven, Iowa and Rhonda Eaton of Ruthven, Iowa; four grandchildren, Chad Dischinger, Katie (Will) Summers, Nick Grandstaff and Bobbie (Kyle) Newmans; great grandchildren, Dylan Dischinger; Teddy, John, and Matthew Newmans; as well as many other relatives and friends.
