Steve Davis, communications director for the Iowa Judicial Branch, stated in the late afternoon Thursday that the Supreme Court of Iowa has scheduled its opinion on the appeal of the State of Iowa from an Iowa Appeals Court ruling that granted Lee Samuel Christensen a new trial. The Iowa Attorney general appealed to the Supreme Court of Iowa, providing a brief in support of the state's assertion that Christensen received a fair trial in Emmet County district court in 2016.

Christensen remains at Anamosa State Penitentiary on his sentence of murder in the second degree in the shooting death of Thomas Lee Bortvit, 19, of Estherville on June 6, 2015.

The Estherville News will have continuing coverage of this case.
