Midgets shut out Garrigan in opener

Miller, Rowley limit Bears’ run chances

ALGONA - Seniors Blake Miller and Briar combined to throw a no-hitter, as the Estherville Lincoln Central Baseball Team opened the season with a 9-0 win over Bishop Garrigan on Monday.

Miller struck out six batters, walked two and hit one in six innings of work. Rowley faced three batters in the seventh and struck out one.

ELC opened the night with three runs in the first inning without a hit-three walks and three Garrigan errors.

However, the Midgets finished with seven hits in the game with Brian Egeland going 1-2 with three RBIs while Seth Vaske was 1-4 with two RBIs, and Izaak Sander was 1-1 with an RBI and two walks.

Also, Keegan Brown was 1-2, Alec Heifner and Miller each were 1-3, and Ryan Schiltz was 1-4. Heifner also had four stolen bases and Seth Busch had one.

ELC drew nine walks on the night off Garrigan starter Brad Capesious.

ELC (1-0) was on the road against Manson-Northwest Webster on Wednesday. The Midgets travel to Sioux Rapids today to play Sioux Central before hosting Sibley-Ocheyedan on Friday.
