Glasnapp to be new county supervisor

Committee charged with selecting replacement in lieu of special election

A vacancy appointing committee consisting of Emmet County Auditor Amy Sathoff, Emmet County Recorder Diann Minion and Emmet County Treasurer Brenda Moore will appoint Todd Glasnapp of rural Ringsted to fill the vacancy on the board of supervisors Tues. Feb. 5 at 9:30 a.m.

Sathoff said, "This was an extremely difficult decision to make with so many qualified candidates, and the committee felt that the cost of a special election of approximately $20,000 was worth the time and effort to try to make this appointment."

Glasnapp's appointment will be valid until the results of the Nov. 3, 2020 general election are certified, unless the citizens of Emmet County petition for a special election.

Pursuant to Iowa Code Section 69.14A, subsection 1.a(2), citizens of Emmet County may request a special election to fill the vacancy by filing a petition with the Emmet County Auditor containing the signatures of 377 eligible electors of Emmet County, no later than 14 days after the appointment is made to fill the vacancy.

Sathoff said, "The committee feels that Mr. Glasnapp will be a true and valuable team member on the Emmet County Board of Supervisors."

Glasnapp has lived in Emmet County his entire life. He was educated in Ringsted and Armstrong and farms in Ringsted, Halfa, Armstrong and Dolliver areas. Glassnap has served on the Emmet County Extension Council, Emmet County Soil & Water Commission, Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative nominating committee, Stateline Coop nominating committee and has served as a Jack Creek township trustee.
