North Union bounces back

NORTHWOOD - Class 1A No. 5 North Union bounced back from Monday's loss with an 8-1 victory over Northwood-Kensett.

Kate Anderson struck out 12 batters and walked 12 in the complete game victory. The Vikings scored one unearned run and had five hits.

Offensively, the Warriors finished with 12 hits led by Hope Steinberger, who went 3-5 with an RBI. She also had four stolen bases.

Shawna Person was 1-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Also, Rory McClellan and Brooklyn Prochniak each went 2-4 with an RBI, Bre Anderson was 1-3 with an RBI and Kaitlyn Bierstedt was 1-1.

North Union (19-4) hosted Bishop Garrigan Wednesday afternoon and traveled to Garner-hayfield/Ventura Wednesday evening. The Warriors host St. Edmond today and Forest City on Friday.

Newman edges North Union

SWEA CITY - In a battle of rated teams, Class 1A No. 7 Newman Catholic edged Class 1 No. 5 North Union in softball action on Monday.

The Knights struck first with a run in the fourth inning. Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning.

The Warriors out-hit Newman Catholic 6-3. North Union ace Kate Anderson pitched seven innings, striking out 10 batters and walking three. Newman Catholic ace Amara Wolfe struck out three batters and walked one.

At the plate for North Union, Hope Steinberger was 2-4, Kate Anderson was 2-2 and Bre Anderson and Rory McClellan each were 1-3. Brooklyn Prochniak had an RBI.
