Titans return home with three medals

DES MOINES - Senior Jacob Conlon's fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run on Saturday, capped Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's performance at the 2018 Iowa State Co-ed Track and Field Meet.

Conlon finished the meet with three state medals after finishing seventh in the 400-meter dash and anchoring the 4x800-meter relay to a seventh-place finish. Both those events were held Thursday.

The Titans finished with eight team points to finish 28th in the Class 1A Standings.

In Saturday's race, Conlon was part of one of the fastest 1A 800 races with North Union's Riley Bauer setting a new record in 1:52.10. Six runners ran the race in under 2 minutes.

In Thursday's 400-meter race, Conlon finished fourth in his heat, but finished seventh overall in 51.75 seconds. Tayler Blaha of St. Albert, Council Bluffs won the event in 50.33.

In the 4x800, Conlon ran a strong anchor leg to give his team the seventh-place medal. Along with senior Kolton Roth, sophomore Cameron Johnson and junior Chris Conlon, the Titan quartet finished in season-best time of 8:22.86. Lisbon won the 4x800 with a time of 8:06.24.

Other finishes for the Titans at state included a 21st place finish by Nate Larson in the 200-meter preliminaries on Thursday. His time was 24.19.

Also, the sprint medley team of Larson, sophomore Jace Naig, Roth and Chris Conlon placed 24th in 1:41.30. In the shot put, Shea Royster placed 24th with a throw of 37 feet, 6 inches.
