SPIRIT LAKE - Nearly two weeks into April and the Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Track Team finally competed in its first outdoor meet in Spirit Lake on Thursday.

The Midgets finished fourth out of 12 teams with 54 points with Algona winning with 93 points.

"I was very happy with the way the kids performed," said ELC coach Dick Barrett. "Going in, we had questions marks with injuries and illness. The athletes who performed gave a good account of themselves."

Sophomore Taylor Myers earned ELC's one first-place finish on the day, with his time of 10 minutes, 27.10 seconds in the 3200-meter run.

"Taylor had an excellent early season time in winning the 3200," said Barrett. "Also I was very happy with the way our sprint relays ran."

ELC placed third in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays and fourth in the sprint medley relay.

Barrett also highlighted Jesse Wolfe's throw in the shot put as he threw a personal best, throwing 3 feet further than he had before. The coach said the shuttle hurdle relay team also gave a good effort.

"When they get the fundamentals down, they can be even better," said Barrett.

ELC was scheduled to host the 97th Running of the Estherville Relays on Friday. The event is postponed to Monday, April 23.
