Jim began his education in Superior and continued at St. Patrick's school in Estherville, graduating in 1963 from Estherville High School.

He married DeAnne Buthmann on Sept. 3, 1964 in Estherville. They made their home in rural Superior where they farmed and raised livestock. Jim especially enjoyed working with cattle and passed that love onto his son. He liked traveling to sale barns around the mid-west to see quality cattle being sold and to purchase his own.

Jim enjoyed fast pitch softball, especially pitching and also hitting a home run.

Jim loved a good fishing trip up North to Minnesota and Canada with his friends. His last fishing trip was just he and DeAnne at the mighty Missouri River in Chamberlain, S.D.

As a farmer Jim understood the "gamble" involved-which also explains why he loved a good game of poker.

His greatest passion was spending time with DeAnne and his family.

Jim was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Parish and Elks.

James is survived by his wife, DeAnne Bueltel of Spirit Lake; his children, Jeff Bueltel and his wife Sandi, Sheila Schichtl and her husband Jeff, Stacie Bleeker and her husband Darrell; his grandchildren, Spenser (Brittany) Schichtl, Megan (Greg) Tusa, Morgan Schichtl, Amanda Bueltel, Alison Bueltel, Nathan Bleeker, Katie Bleeker; great-grandchildren, Jaxyn, Leah, Luke, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his siblings, Margie (Jack) Fredericksen, Bonnie Dahl, Janice (Delano) Helmers; and mother-in-law, Marian Buthmann.

James is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Earl Bueltel, Pat (Wayne) Bueltel, Jerry Bueltel, and Vernon Bueltel.
