Estherville News

Iowa Lakes Community College Head Women's Basketball Coach Ashley Martin announced the signing of Samantha Hagedorn, 5-7 guard from Bancroft.

"We want to welcome Samantha Hagedorn and her family to our Iowa Lakes women's basketball family," said Martin. "We are thrilled to get a local kid and are eager to add her to our team. Sam will stretch the defense with her ability to knock down shots. Sam's work ethic and passion for the game will be a great addition to our women's basketball program as well as our campus."

Hagedorn will graduate in May from North Union High School in Iowa. During her basketball career she was named First Team All-Conference Top of Iowa West twice, First Team All-Area (Algona Newspaper) twice, and First Team All-Area (Fairmont Sentinel) twice. She recorded over 1,000 points and 300 assists in her career. During her senior year, Hagedorn helped her team become regional champions by defeating Western Christian earning a trip to the state tournament, where the Warriors went 1-1, losing in the Class 2A semifinal.

"I chose Iowa Lakes because it is close to home," said Hagedorn. "I also chose Iowa Lakes because of how affordable it is; and how I will get two more years to mature, grow as a person and see where my academics take me. Both of my parents are Iowa Lakes Alumni and I felt very welcomed into the Laker community. I'm super excited to become a Laker and see all the things that we can accomplish. Lastly, I chose Iowa Lakes because of the coaching staff. Coach Martin was my AAU Rise basketball coach last summer and I really connected with her. I like being told things straight up and I always have felt that she will tell you how she feels, whether you want to hear it or not. She has helped me with a lot of things and I'm glad she wants to continue coaching me during my time at Iowa Lakes."
